讲座题目:Smart Materials from Sustainable Sources
Abstract
Cellulose, one of the most abundant sustainable sources on earth, is ubiquitously used in our daily life. In addition to applications as commodities, such as paper and textile, the use of cellulose in more fields and specifically those high-technology fields related to healthcare or energy is strongly desired. In this context, this presentation will showcase a few recent advances of own research on cellulose-derived smart materials.
The formation of stimuli-responsive nanoparticles (NPs), functional surfaces based on the NPs from cellulose derivatives, flower-like microparticles (FLPs) mimicking the natural morphologies and stimuli-responsive films from cellulose derivatives will be shown.
In addition to the polymeric materials, the naturally occurring nanostructures within cellulose fibers were used as substrates for the construction of stimuli-responsive fluorescent compounds, heterogeneous bio/catalysts or shape-memory materials.
Biography
Dr. Zhang received his Bachelor in Hefei University of Technology in 2002. Then, he moved to Dresden University of Technology, where he obtained his Diploma (German Master) and Dr. rer. Nat. degree from the department of Food Chemistry in 2007 and 2011, respectively. From June 2011 to June 2012, he did one year PostDoc in the Pennsylvania State University. In July 2012, he went back to Germany and started as Junior Research Group Leader in the Darmstadt University of Technology. Since May 2015, he was appointed as a Junior-Professor in Georg-August-University of Goettingen. His research interests are functional materials from sustainable sources, surface and interface science, chemistry of biopolymers and natural nanostructures. Dr. Zhang has published more than 30 papers in top tier journals such as Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Advanced Functional Materials, ACS Macro Letters, etc.
